In order to raise awareness among young audiences about our industrial heritage, this summer the CNCI organized its first summer school: Mini Schmelz. This camp, which took place from July 16 to 19, 2024, welcomed 14 children aged 8 to 11. Each day, the young participants visited a different partner to discover and understand the work of miners and factory workers: from ore extraction to iron production, including the operation of blast furnaces.
Every morning, the children gathered at the CNCI to take a shuttle that took them to a new location. After a guided tour led by our partners, the children had the opportunity to picnic just like the workers. The afternoons were dedicated to discovering an artistic practice: related to the theme of the day, the children were able to try screen printing with Irina Moons, charcoal drawing with Alexandra Upmann, photography with Neckel Scholtus, and arc welding with FerroForum.
