MEET OUR NETWORK | Musée National des Mines

The National Mining Museum in Rumelange is dedicated to the industrial heritage of the Minett region and the history of iron ore mining in Luxembourg.

Located on the former Walert mine site, the museum allows visitors to explore underground galleries where miners worked for decades.

A mine train takes visitors through part of the underground network before continuing the tour on foot through the former mining tunnels. Historical machinery, tools and installations illustrate the evolution of mining techniques and working conditions.

The museum also presents archives, objects and documents related to mining history and the industrial development of southern Luxembourg.

Main missions:
• Share the history of mining in Luxembourg
• Preserve and promote the Minett’s industrial heritage
• Provide access to former mining galleries and installations
• Highlight miners’ daily life and know-how
• Develop educational and cultural activities

Today, the National Mining Museum contributes to preserving the industrial and social memory of Luxembourg’s mining basin.
