Founded in 2019, FerroForum is an association that combines a knowledge hub and a creative space centered on iron. Dedicated to the preservation and promotion of industrial heritage, it stands as a true center of “iron know-how”. Its activities take place primarily in the former Central Workshop of the ‘Metzeschmelz’, located between Esch-sur-Alzette and Schifflange. Built in 1913, the site is listed as a national monument.
FerroForum’s spaces for experimentation, training, and conservation are open to all: craftspeople, artists, researchers, historians, students, and ironworking enthusiasts alike. As both a hands-on workshop environment and a center for documentation and archives, FerroForum brings together industrial heritage and innovation to pass on shared knowledge and expertise while inspiring new ideas. Visitors can drop in to explore its activities or become active members through workshops held twice a week.
FerroForum’s main missions include:
- Crafting and Making: experimenting with and creating objects in iron and steel.
- Training and Knowledge Sharing: transmitting techniques and expertise rooted in industrial heritage.
- Archival Preservation and Access: safeguarding and promoting the collective memory of the steel industry.
- Cultural and Public Programming: organizing creative encounters, workshops, and convivial events open to the public.
FerroForum fosters community engagement and intergenerational exchange, while celebrating the industrial and cultural identity of the region.
