The Minett Park Fond-de-Gras is an open-air museum dedicated to the industrial, mining, railway, natural and archaeological history of southern Luxembourg.
It brings together several emblematic sites within the former mining region: Fond-de-Gras, the workers’ village of Lasauvage, the former Giele Botter open-cast mine and the archaeological site of Titelberg.
Once one of Luxembourg’s most important mining centres, Fond-de-Gras still contains numerous traces of its industrial past.
Mining galleries, railway tracks, workshops, historic buildings and technical equipment illustrate the essential role played by iron ore extraction and transportation in the development of the region.
Railway heritage is central to the Minett Park experience. The Train 1900 connects Pétange with Fond-de-Gras using historic rolling stock, while the Minièresbunn mining train takes visitors into a former underground mine.
These journeys provide a tangible insight into working conditions, industrial techniques and the development of transport associated with the steel industry.
The Minett Park also promotes the area’s social, natural and archaeological heritage. The village of Lasauvage bears witness to the daily lives of former working-class communities, while the Giele Botter and Titelberg offer complementary perspectives on the landscape, geology and early settlement of the region.
Through guided tours, school activities, workshops, exhibitions and a varied programme of events, the Minett Park shares this history with a wide range of audiences and helps preserve a heritage that is essential to understanding contemporary Luxembourg.
